Lufthansa on the ground

Apr 13, 2020 | Planespotting

The title of this article may be a bit exaggerated but it pretty much hits the nail on the head. At the moment, an unusual picture is emerging at Germany’s largest airport. Nothing works any more. Apart from cargo flights and flights bringing back stranded holidaymakers, hardly anything works at Frankfurt Airport: Lufthansa on the ground.

Ever since I was a child, I have been fascinated by aeroplanes and the fact that so many tonnes of weight can fly through the air. Due to the Corona pandemic (which has been going on for weeks), the big and small planes can’t do their actual job at the moment, so the child in me, equipped with the camera, is currently in a play paradise. I don’t usually get this close to the planes and, above all, in peace. Quiet … that’s a strange state of mind anyway, one that one gives oneself too seldom.

Nevertheless, I prefer to see aeroplanes driving around, taking off, landing and flying. Because this fascination of how one cog meshes with the other and everything works the way it does is much greater. Beyond that, there are still destinations and places in this world that I would like to visit. And that can only be done without planes on the ground!
